How to Assemble Your Beach Cruiser
Step 1: Open Box

Your beach cruiser will be shipped in a factory sealed box similar to the one shown in the picture to the right.  Carefully open the box right side up as shown.

You will need some basic tools to assemble the bike.

  • #2 Philps Screw Driver (for fenders)
  • Adjustable Wrench (for seat and pedals)
  • Allen Keys (for handle bars)
  • Air Pump (for tires)
  • Scissors (packaging removal)

Step 2: Remove Packaging Material

Remove the bike from the box and carefully cut the zip ties which are holding everything together.  We recommend you leave some of the protective packaging on the bike at this point.  Specifically the cardboard protecting the frame, this will help protect the frame from getting scratched during assembly.

Step 3: Attach Fenders

Using a Philps #2 screwdriver, install the fenders using the 4 screws already screwed into the fork (you'll have to remove the screws first, then use them to secure the fenders).

The front fender will also have 1 bolt at the top of the fork, do not tighten this bolt completely at this point.  Finger tight will work for now.

Repeat this process for the rear fender.

Step 4: Install Front Wheel

Install the front wheel and tighten the nuts with an adjustable wrench.  Do not over tighten! Doing so may lock up the front wheel and prevent it from spinning.

Check the direction of the tire, some flame threads are directional. Copy the rear tire if you can't figure it out.

Step 5: Install Handle Bars

Install the handle bars by inserting the stem into the head tube.  Adjust the height as needed before moving to Step 8.

Step 6: Secure Handle Bars

Lock the handle bars in place by tightening the bolt with an allen wrench.  Make sure the bars are straight to the front wheel.

Step 7: Adjust Handle Bars

You can adjust the angle of the handle bars by loosening the allen bolt in the front.  Loosen the bolt, adjust the angle to your liking, then tighten the bolt.  Make sure you get this right or you handle bars might slide up/down as your riding.

Step 8: Attach Seat Post

Insert the seat post into the bottom of the seat.  Tighten the bolts using your adjustable wrench until secure.

Adjust the seat forward or backwards as needed.  Default position works well for most riders.

Step 9: Install Seat

Slide the seat post into the seat tube.

Adjust the seat height using the quick release lever.

Step10: Install Pedals

Install the pedals and tighten using the adjustable wrench or pedal wrench (if you have one).

Note: the left pedal will thread onto the crank arm counter-clockwise.  This is opposite from the right side so the pedal will not come loose while riding.

The pedals are also labeled Left & Right.  Look for the small lettering modeled into the side of the pedal.  Normally marked with a "L" for Left or "R" or Right.

Step 11: Attach Shifting Hub (for 3spd models only)

Some cruisers will have a gears and require the Nexus Shifter to be installed.  If you have a single speed cruiser, then you do not need to worry about this step.  Please proceed to step 12.

Make sure you install the long spring into the rear axel before attaching the shifter hub.  This part is often lost in the packaging.  It is about 4" long and is packaged in a small plastic bag.

Step 12: Remove Protective Packaging

You're almost done now, remove the rest of the packaging material and check your kick stand.

If you dropped any tools while assembling your bike, leaving the packaging on the bike until this point might have saved you a few scratches on your paint.

Step 13: Inflate Tires & Install Reflectors

Install the front reflector to the bolt which holds the front fender.  The rear reflector mounts to the seat post. Check the air pressure in your tires and make any final adjustments. Most customers are able to assemble the bike in under 30 minutes.

Some models include the required tools. Most models do not include tools.  All bikes include basic instructions.  If you do not feel comfortable assembling your own bike, please take it a bike shop for them to assemble for you.

We have fully assembled bikes available for pickup from our shop in Orange County, CA.
